Shear Blades and long knives

In shear cutting, workpieces are separated between two shearing knives. Shearing knives always work with a lower knife, which serves as a counter-tool during cutting processes. These machine knives have a specific cutting characteristic. The upper knife shears past the edge of the lower knife with a small air gap. Shearing knives are also known as cross-cutting knives, guillotine shearing knives, long knives, splitting knives, or suction knives.
Both shearing knives and long knives are used as precise machine components in various cutting techniques in metalworking.
Applications: Shearing knives are used in various industries, including metalworking, paper processing, the textile industry, the packaging industry, and plastics processing. Shearing knives are often used for cutting sheet metal but also thin materials such as foil, paper, or fabric, including as splitting knives or suction knives.
Materials: Shearing knives and long knives can be made from various materials, including high-alloy tool steels, HSS, or even carbide, depending on the requirements for hardness and wear resistance.
Design: Shear blades are often designed to provide optimal cutting performance. These blades can be straight, angled, or wavy to efficiently cut different materials.
Maintenance: As with other machine blades, it is important to regularly sharpen shear blades and long blades to ensure consistently high cutting quality.
